The Liberal Democrats would be favourites to elect the MP in Hinckley and Bosworth if a general election were to be held a poll has found.

The YouGov polling company has produced its first constituency level MRP poll since the general election and it points to a Lib Dem win in Hinckley and Bosworth if the election were held now.

Responding to the news the National President of the Liberal Democrats Lord Mark Pack said: "YouGov has been the gold standard of MRPs and these YouGov figures show that the Liberal Democrats have a very real chance of winning in Hinckley and Bosworth at the next election, with the poll putting the Lib Dems in the lead already. It is clear we are the challengers to beat the Conservatives in Hinckley and Bosworth.

“I know Michael Mullaney personally and know just what a superb MP he would make for local residents and for the villages, towns and communities of Hinckley and Bosworth. I’m delighted to support him and that there are polls which show he is on course to win.”

Hinckley and Bosworth Lib Dem parliamentary spokesman Michael Mullaney said “This poll reinforces the result of the last general election when I got an 18% swing from Tory to Lib Dem in Hinckley and Bosworth and finished a close second to the Conservatives. Added to that this May’s County Council elections when the Lib Dems got their best ever result in a County Council election with 5 Lib Dem County Councillors elected in Hinckley and Bosworth to 2 Conservatives and 2 Reform councillors it shows the Lib Dems can elect an MP in Hinckley and Bosworth next time.”
